Eritrean Askaris: the platoon

Gents,

The platoon is finished. Here are a few more shots showing off these lovely figures. Ideally we’d like to see some Eritrean mounted Askaris at some point but we’ll need to wait around for an intrepid sculptor and manufacturer to make them.

The uniforms are painted using Wargames Foundry Paint color 11C then a dark Army Painter dip, somewhat thinned so as not to produce to darkening an effect.

  1. Really impressive website about the Italo-Ethiopian conflict. You might be interested to know that ‘Lost Lions of Judah: Haile Selassie’s Mongrel Foreign Legion’, my book about foreign mercenaries who fought for the Ethiopians, has just been published in the UK. It’ll be out in the US on 1 October 2017.

Individuals like The Black Eagle, Alejandro del Valle, or Reul’s Belgian Fascists might not deserve their own figures but they had some interesting adventures during the war. Some left first-hand accounts of the fighting. Don’t know if you allow links – if you do, here’s a post I wrote about the book:

  2. Hi Christopher,

Thanks you for your kind comments.

Your book fantastic and is just the sought of thing that this blog is about – the stories, ‘almost could haves’ and unbelievable that did happen is just the ticket. No problem posting it, I shall pop up a post of the book if you don’t mind when I get my hands on it.

I’ve had a read of the preview and shall order the book – great stuff!

As an aside, I have a keen interest in the cold war Congo and the Spanish Civil War so you very much are an author after my own heart – keep the great books coming.

My other more general blog has a few posts on Africa and Spain pop on over if you are so inclined.

Thanks again for dropping by and if there is anything you wish to add in content that you feel fits the format of this blog I’d be happy to ‘host’ it, which is kind of the intent of this project blog – anything from miniatures info to hard history, all inter-war Ethiopia related, is welcome.

    Regards

    Happy W

    • Glad you enjoyed my other books. I’ll definitely check out the SCW and Rhodesia blogs. And thanks for the kind offer of space here for something Ethiopia-related. I’ll give it some thought and see what I can come up with.
